What on earth would we do without email these days? Well, many of us simply wouldn't be able to continue, businesses would flounder, people would stop communicating, the world would grind to a halt and we wouldn't know where to buy the best value Viagra would we? Actually, that might be a blessing. Somebody keeps trying to tell me I need some, like they know something I don't (or won't admit to).

Right, now that we've established that, let's take a look at some of the best email programs available for collecting, sending, and organizing emails we do want, and blocking the ones that we don't.

Mozilla Thunderbird - these names just get better and better don't they. Forty years ago Mozilla Thunderbird would have been a new addition to the Tracy family, but nowadays it's an e-mail program from Mozilla. It's lightning fast, reliable and free (yes, that must be where the Thunderbirds came from). With tons of extra features - newsgroup support, spell-checker, junk mail filtering and a fully customizable interface, there are no adverts to contend with and Mozilla Thunderbird is a brilliant companion to Mozilla Firefox.

Eudora - this one's popular, it's reliable and it's free (that's probably one reason why it's popular). Another reason it's popular is that it's got tons of useful features - automatic address book, drag and drop attachments, newsgroup options, spell checking and customizable toolbar.

eM Client - is totally new and is great for anyone who finds Microsoft Outlook a little bit cumbersome. This is a kind of lightweight replacement for Outlook but still has the popular features - e-mail, address book, calendar, task manager and spam filter. It's also got widgets for Skype, Facebook, Twitter, Linkedln along with a few more.

Spamihilator - tired of all that spam landing in your email? You need Spamihilator! After downloading this free program it will just about become a thing of the past. It's clever enough to learn too, so it will get more and more effective as time goes by. It's compatible with Outlook, Outlook Express, and others.

Iconix eMail ID - sorts out all of those emails which have "gone phishing"! Phishing emails are big business and need to be taken seriously, but this great free program can help you to easily identify which emails are genuine, and which are not.
